None   What does humanism mean to you?   Humanism, to me, means choosing humanity as the foundation of how we understand the world and how we treat one another. It is the belief that human beings have the ability to solve problems, create meaning, and improve society through reason, empathy, and cooperation. Rather than relying on supernatural explanations or divine authority, humanism encourages us to use evidence, critical thinking, and shared human values to guide our decisions.   Growing up in a society where religion strongly influences daily life, I came to realize that my sense of morality did not come from fear of punishment from a higher power. Instead, it came from empathy for others and the understanding that our actions affect real people in the real world. Humanism allows me to take responsibility for my choices and to work toward improving the lives of others through practical solutions and collective effort.   For me, humanism also means promoting equality and dignity for all people, regardless of gender, belief, or social background. It encourages education, open dialogue, and scientific thinking as tools for solving problems in our communities. By focusing on what humans can do together, humanism gives us the freedom and responsibility to build a fairer, more compassionate society. It is about caring for people here and now, using reason and cooperation to create opportunities and improve the well-being of our communities.   Project Description   The Kpakpa Humanist Collective seeks $300 from HuMAN to establish a solar-powered phone charging spot in Dapaong. This project will provide a reliable and environmentally sustainable way for community members to charge their mobile phones while also generating income for the collective.   Mobile phones are essential tools for communication, education, mobile banking, and small businesses in our community. However, access to reliable electricity is sometimes limited, and many residents struggle to find convenient places to charge their phones, especially during power outages. A solar-powered charging station will provide a dependable alternative that does not rely on the electrical grid.   With the requested $300 funding, the collective will purchase a small solar panel, a battery for energy storage, a charge controller, multiple USB charging ports, cables, and a simple charging station setup. The system will collect solar energy during the day and store it in the battery, allowing people to charge their phones throughout the day.   Members of the collective will manage the charging station in shifts. Customers will be able to charge their phones for a small affordable fee, which will create a steady income stream for the group. The project will also provide members with practical experience in managing a small community service and maintaining basic solar equipment.   This project supports sustainability and community development in several ways:   Economic empowerment: The charging station will generate daily income that supports members of the collective and future humanist activities.   Environmental sustainability: Solar power provides a clean and renewable source of energy, reducing dependence on unreliable electricity sources.   Community service: Residents will have a convenient and affordable place to charge their phones, improving access to communication and digital services.   Skill development: Members will gain experience in basic solar technology maintenance and small business management.   Through this initiative, the Kpakpa Humanist Collective will demonstrate how practical solutions and cooperation can improve everyday life in the community.   Budget – Please include links to verify the costs that you list.   50W Solar Panel — $90 Example: https://www.amazon.com/50w-solar-panel   12V Rechargeable Battery — $80 Example: https://www.amazon.com/12v-rechargeable-battery   Solar Charge Controller — $25 Example: https://www.amazon.com/solar-charge-controller   USB Charging Hub with Multiple Ports — $30 Example: https://www.amazon.com/multi-usb-charging-station   Charging Cables (Micro USB, Type-C, Lightning) — $25 Example: https://www.amazon.com/charging-cable-set   Wiring, connectors, and installation materials — $20 Example: https://www.amazon.com/electrical-wiring-kit   Wooden table / charging station setup — $20 Example: https://www.amazon.com/small-wood-table   Signboard for the charging spot — $10   Total: $300   Expected Income from Project, with Timeline   The solar charging spot is expected to begin generating income shortly after installation. In the first two weeks (Days 1–14), the collective will complete installation and testing of the solar charging system while informing the community about the service.   By Week 3 to Week 4, the charging station is expected to serve an average of 10–15 customers per day, with each charging service costing approximately $0.30–$0.50 per phone. This would generate about $3–$7 per day, or approximately $90–$210 during the first month.   By the second month, as awareness grows, the station could serve 20–30 customers per day, generating approximately $6–$15 per day, or around $180–$450 per month.   Within the first three months, the project could generate approximately $300–$900 in total income. Part of the income will be reinvested to maintain the solar system and replace cables when necessary, while the remaining funds will support members and group activities.   Benefits to your Community   The solar-powered charging spot will bring several important benefits to the local community. It will provide a reliable and affordable way for people to charge their mobile phones, especially during times when electricity is unavailable or unreliable. This helps residents stay connected with family members, conduct mobile banking transactions, access educational information, and run small businesses that depend on phone communication.   The project will also support the local economy by creating a small but consistent source of income for members of the collective. By using renewable solar energy, the charging station promotes environmentally friendly technology and raises awareness about sustainable energy solutions in the community.   Additionally, the project will help reduce the inconvenience and cost that many residents face when they must travel long distances just to charge their devices. By providing this service locally, the Kpakpa Humanist Collective will strengthen community connections while demonstrating how cooperative initiatives can improve everyday life.   Overall, the solar charging spot will serve as both a practical community service and a sustainable income-generating project, helping the collective continue its humanist activities while contributing positively to the development of the Dapaong community.
