What Humanism Means to Us

Humanism represents a commitment to reason, critical thinking, and human-centered development. After questioning beliefs that limit free inquiry and independent thought, we embraced humanism as a philosophy that values knowledge, compassion, and practical solutions to human challenges.

Humanism has inspired us to focus on education, empowerment, and self-reliance. It encourages us to create opportunities that improve lives through skills, innovation, and community support rather than dependence on tradition or dogma.

Project Description

The Tai Solarin Humanist School proposes to establish a Vocational Skills Centre aimed at empowering teachers and students through practical, income-generating skills. This centre will serve as a hub for creativity, entrepreneurship, and hands-on learning, while also providing a sustainable source of income for the school and its staff.

The vocational centre will focus on a wide range of skills, including:

● Leather works (bags, belts, sandals)

● Sewing (clothing, school uniforms, repairs)

● Handmade crafts (tote bags, pillowcases, aprons)

● Knitting and crocheting

● Soap making (liquid and bar soap)

● Detergent and cleaning product production

These activities will not only equip students with valuable life skills but also produce marketable goods that can be sold within the community and beyond.

Key Features of the Centre

● Workstations for sewing, crafting, and production

● Storage space for materials and finished products

● Training sessions for teachers and students

● Cooperative management system for shared responsibility and profit

Teachers will actively participate in managing and operating the centre, gaining new vocational skills while earning additional income. Students will benefit from hands-on training that complements their academic education and prepares them for self-reliance.

Products made in the centre will be sold to:

● Local residents

● Schools and institutions

● Markets and small businesses

● Community members
