The school was founded by an atheist journalist who wanted to improve the education in his village where literacy was only 50%. The names of the sponsored children are Roshni Kumari, Samima Khatun, Suraj Bathai, Anshu Kumar, Anchla Kumari, Abishek Ram, and Soni Kumari.

$122 for a Water Purifier for the 65 children in ShikShit School in Bandepar village of Gorakhpur district, Uttar Pradesh, India. The school has 65 students, most of them are Dalits (untouchables). For many of the children this is the only uncontaminated water they will have access to. Contaminated water in India has microorganisms from sewage that can cause cholera, dysentery and diarrhea; it can also have toxic chemicals like arsenic, that cause cancer and skin lesions.

$167 to Birsi Humanist School in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand state, India, where 39.1 percent live below the poverty line and 19.6 percent of children are malnourished. Most of the students here are tribal (Adivasi) - the school director is an atheist journalist. The funds were spent on lunch food.
