What does humanism mean to you?
To us, humanism is a way of thinking that focuses on human dignity, well-being, and responsibility. It encourages people to use reason, evidence, and critical thinking to understand the world and solve problems instead of relying on superstition or fear.
Humanism also teaches compassion, fairness, and respect for others. It reminds us that all people share a common humanity and should work together to build a better society. Through humanism, we believe individuals are free to think, ask questions, and make decisions about their lives without pressure or coercion.
Humanism also teaches that we must take responsibility for improving our communities. By working together and helping one another, we can solve problems such as poverty, inequality, and lack of opportunities. For us, humanism means promoting kindness, cooperation, and practical solutions that improve people’s lives.
Project Description
The Korhogo Humanist Movement has successfully started a small cold drinks business using a refrigerator to sell bottled water, juice, and soft drinks to members of the local community. The project has already begun generating small but important income that helps support the group’s meetings, educational discussions, and community outreach activities.
However, one challenge we face is the cost and reliability of electricity. Power supply in our area can sometimes be unstable, and electricity costs can reduce the profits from the business. To make the project more sustainable and reliable, the Korhogo Humanist Movement is seeking $300 to install a small solar energy system that will help power the refrigerator used in the cold drinks business.
The solar system will provide clean and reliable energy during the day, helping the refrigerator keep drinks cold even when the electricity supply is unstable. This will protect the drinks from spoiling and ensure that the business can continue operating smoothly.
Using solar energy will also reduce electricity expenses and make the project more environmentally friendly. This improvement will strengthen the sustainability of the cold drinks business and allow the group to generate more consistent income to support its activities.
By investing in solar energy, the Korhogo Humanist Movement aims to build a stronger and more reliable small business that benefits both the organization and the surrounding community.
