What does humanism mean to you?
My humanism is influenced by my curiosity, since I cannot attend school. I am an autodidact who loves to read. My reading first introduced me to atheism books, that of Richard Dawkins and the paleontologist Stephen Jay Goulds. I was convinced there is no God and still yet somehow convinced we have to be good humans, atheism didn’t give me this. Humanism did, and many YouTube videos cemented my faith in secular humanism. I live my life as a humanist, I try to be good to my neighbors, indulge in moderate hedonism, and contribute to the greater good of mankind.
Project Description
The N’Djamena HuMAN Computer Centre is a newly established community learning space created and managed by members of the N’Djamena Humanist Collectives. The centre was founded to provide humanist members, especially young people, with access to computers, digital skills training, and online learning opportunities. Since its launch, the centre has quickly become an important hub for digital learning and youth engagement in the community. However, its full potential is currently limited by unreliable internet service and inconsistent electricity supply.
This project aims to address these challenges by providing a Starlink internet kit and subscription, a printer, and solar power systems for the computer centre. The installation of Starlink will ensure fast, reliable, and stable internet connectivity that can support many users at the same time. This will allow the centre to run online training, support research, and enable youth to access educational and professional resources without frequent interruptions.
In addition, the project will provide solar panels and related equipment to ensure a constant and sustainable power supply. Reliable electricity is critical for keeping computers, internet equipment, and other devices running smoothly. Solar power will reduce dependence on unstable electricity sources and allow the centre to operate for longer hours, including during power outages.
The inclusion of a printer will further support the needs of users by allowing them to print learning materials, assignments, certificates, and important documents. This will improve the overall usefulness of the centre for students, trainees, and community members.
The HuMAN Computer Centre will continue to be maintained and managed by the humanist members of the N’Djamena Humanist Collectives, ensuring community ownership, accountability, and sustainability. By improving internet access and electricity supply, this project will strengthen the centre’s ability to provide quality digital training, empower youth with essential skills, and expand its positive impact within the community.
Budget
Starlink kit - $699 - https://ln.run/wy4sA
One month internet Subscription for start Up - $47
Solar panels and installation -$350
Printer - $104
Total - $1200
Expected Income from Project, with Timeline
The project is expected to generate modest but steady income to support the running of the N’Djamena HuMAN Computer Centre through affordable user fees such as printing, internet use, computer training sessions, and basic services. On average, the centre is expected to earn about $120–150 per month, coming from printing services (about $40 monthly), internet access and computer use (about $50 monthly), and short digital skills training (about $30–60 monthly). This income will help cover the Starlink subscription, basic maintenance, and minor operational costs. In terms of timeline, once funding is received, the project will take 21 days to complete: 7 days to purchase and deliver the Starlink kit, printer, and solar equipment; 5 days for solar panel installation and power setup; 3 days to install and configure the Starlink internet and printer; and 6 days for testing, basic training of centre managers, and full commencement of services. By the end of the three-week period, all installations will be completed and the computer centre will be fully operational with reliable internet and constant electricity.
