What does Humanism Mean to You?
Our group became humanist because we recognized the urgent need for a worldview in Somali society that values reason, evidence, and universal human dignity over religious dogma and superstition. Humanism, to us, means embracing a life guided by logic, compassion, and ethical responsibility—without relying on supernatural beliefs. It is about placing human beings at the center of concern, promoting free inquiry, scientific understanding, and moral decision-making based on empathy and shared human values rather than fear of divine punishment or religious authority.
Project
To improve the sustainability of the group we request:
Laptop Computer - $130
Printer - $90
Books - $50
Paper & Stationary - $57
Food for meetings - $80
Transportation to meetings - $60
——————-
TOTAL - $467
We plan to host science education events, offer volunteer-led workshops, and potentially sell low-cost pamphlets and educational materials on humanism to sustain future projects over a 6–12 month period.
Benefits to the Community
The Somali Humanist Association aims to promote critical thinking, human rights, and science education. It empowers youth and women, offers safe spaces for nonbelievers, and fosters ethical values rooted in compassion rather than dogma. Our goal is to build a more open, rational, and inclusive Somali society.
