Women's Empowerment "Ambedkar Workshops" in Rajasthan, India

The workshops are organized by HuMAN partner Ravindra Dhanka in villages in Rajasthan. Only women and girls are allowed to attend because they face many struggles in society and their voices are often ignored. Ravindra believes that real change in any community begins with women.

The workshops discuss the struggles of women in India, and the thoughts of B. R. Ambedkar, who believed no society can truly progress without the freedom and education of women. Issues discussed include lack of education, early marriage, financial dependence, domestic violence, and the extra pressure faced by women from marginalized communities.

Many women and girls in these workshops share their personal experiences. For many, it is the first time they speak openly in front of others. Many share how they are forced to leave school early, some talk about family pressure, some speak about their hopes for their future. The discussions are emotional and honest because the women are relieved to finally have a space where they could speak freely.

After the 3-hour workshop ends, refreshments are provided.
