What does humanism mean to your group?
We are humanists in Cameroon because we believe in the power of reason, compassion, and human dignity to shape a better society. In a country where tradition and religious dogma often go unquestioned, humanism offers an alternative rooted in critical thinking, ethical living, and the pursuit of knowledge.
As humanists, we affirm that morality does not require supernatural beliefs. We are guided by empathy, justice, and a sense of responsibility to each other. We advocate for gender equality, freedom of belief, and the rights of all people regardless of tribe, religion, or sexual orientation.
We reject harmful practices justified by superstition and call for a society where education, science, and open dialogue are valued. Our goal is to build inclusive communities, challenge injustice, and empower people to think for themselves.
Being a humanist in Cameroon is not always easy, but it is necessary. It is an act of courage and hope, a commitment to building a future where everyone is free to live, question, and grow.
Project Description
The Secular Path Humanist Group in Cameroon is launching a sustainable income-generating project aimed at empowering its members through the establishment of a peanut packaging shop. This initiative is designed to create a reliable source of revenue, strengthen group sustainability, and provide economic empowerment to members through direct involvement in the operation and management of the business. This project is proudly funded by HuMAN (Humanist Mutual Aid Network), whose support will enable the acquisition of necessary equipment, initial stock, packaging materials, and rental of workspace. The funding will also cover initial training for members on packaging techniques, quality control, hygiene standards, and small business management. The peanut packaging shop will be entirely run and operated by members of the Secular Path Humanist Group. This approach ensures full ownership and accountability while promoting practical skills development, teamwork, and long-term commitment to the project’s success.
The core goal of this initiative is to create a profitable and sustainable business that not only provides a consistent source of income for the group but also contributes to the visibility and growth of humanist values in the community. Profits generated will be reinvested into the group’s future projects, outreach activities, and social support initiatives, creating a cycle of sustainability and self-reliance. By transforming a locally available resource peanuts into a packaged and market-ready product, this project taps into a growing market demand while supporting the economic resilience of a committed humanist community in Cameroon. This peanut packaging shop represents more than a business; it is a step toward self-sufficiency, dignity, and practical humanism in action.

Expected Income from Project, with Timeline
The peanut butter packaging project is expected to begin generating income by the second month of operation, following an initial setup and training phase. By producing and selling packaged peanut butter at an estimated rate of 200 to 400 jars per month at $1.50 per jar, the project anticipates steady growth in sales and profitability. Within the first six months, projected revenue is approximately $2,900, with an estimated profit of $1,450 after deducting operating costs. As sales expand to local markets and retail outlets, profits will be reinvested to grow the business, maintain equipment, and support additional group initiatives, ensuring long-term sustainability and income generation for the Secular Path Humanist Group
Benefits to your Community
This project will benefit the community by providing access to affordable, locally made, and hygienically packaged peanut butter, promoting healthier food choices while supporting the local economy. It will create opportunities for skill development, particularly in food processing, packaging, and small business management, empowering group members especially women and youth to become more economically self-reliant. Additionally, the project will serve as a model of secular cooperation and community-driven development, helping to reduce unemployment and encouraging ethical, inclusive practices grounded in humanist values. Through its visibility and outreach, the initiative will also inspire others to pursue practical, sustainable solutions to local challenges.
