Why We Are Humanist.
As members of the N’djamena Student Rational Society (NSRS), we have united around a shared conviction that reason, critical thinking, and compassion offer the most reliable foundation for building a just, peaceful, and progressive society. We identify as humanists because we believe that human beings are capable of leading meaningful and ethical lives without relying on belief in God or any form of supernatural authority.
While we fully respect the rights of others to practice religion, each of us, through personal reflection and study, has chosen a path grounded in evidence, logic, and human experience. Our decision to embrace humanism is rooted in the understanding that morality does not require divine origin, but can be shaped by empathy, rational thought, and the shared challenges and values of our human condition. We believe that human rights are universal, that individuals deserve freedom of thought and conscience, and that ethical living is best achieved through dialogue, education, and respect for others' dignity.
In a society where religious belief is often assumed or enforced, we affirm our right not to believe in God, and we do so openly and respectfully. We strive to foster a culture where asking questions is not only allowed but encouraged, where beliefs are tested by reason, and where no one is judged or excluded based on their personal convictions. Our vision is a Chad where every citizen, regardless of faith or non-faith, is treated equally and with respect.
Through our work, we hope to encourage all people, religious or not, to support the principles of freedom of expression, gender equality, scientific literacy, and social justice. We are proud to be part of the growing global humanist movement and look forward to contributing meaningfully to a more rational, compassionate, and inclusive society.
Purpose of the group, and projects we are planning.
The N’djamena Student Rational Society (NSRS) was created by students at the University of N’Djamena to promote humanist values through practical action. Our purpose is to create a space for open-minded students who choose to think critically, live ethically without belief in God, and stand for human dignity and equality.
In practical terms, we aim to encourage critical thinking and scientific understanding among young people by organizing public discussions, lectures, debates, and workshops on topics like ethics, science, human rights, and secularism. We want to build a community of students who support one another in being free thinkers, who challenge harmful traditions, and who speak out against injustice and discrimination.
We also engage in community outreach visiting schools to promote science education, running awareness campaigns on gender equality and human rights, and volunteering to help vulnerable groups in society regardless of their religion or background. Our group is non-religious and non-political, but we are deeply committed to social responsibility, education, and peaceful coexistence.
By creating a safe space for students who may feel isolated because of their lack of religious belief or questioning mindset, we aim to break the silence around non-belief in Chad and encourage others to think independently while respecting the rights of all.
Project
Our group needs a computer system to keep records, maintain our social media accounts, write meeting minutes and do assignments in that require typing.
