What does humanism mean to your group? We are from different religious background and were followers of the religions of our parents before becoming humanists a few years ago. We did not agree with the violence, oppression, inequality, persecution and dominance preached and practiced by the religions. Religions do not accept the existence of LGBTQIA+ community. We found the same in every religion, the gravity may be different from one religion to the other religion, overall no religion is suitable for following. It was taught in Sri Lanka that killing those who leave Islam is the right punishment for 40 years in the school curriculum. The religions are based on lies and pseudo-scientific. We chose humanism as it answers where religion fails. Humanism is the best way to have a happy and equal life with respect and dignity.

Benefits to Community : It is not possible to teach humanism in Sri Lanka due to the law (ICCPR) and the special Police unit ( https://www.ucanews.com/news/sri-lanka-sets-up-special-unit-to-probe-insults-to-religion/103577 ) We will use humanist statements for teaching as examples. The students will get their rational thinking provoked. This will create a change among students and a new wave of future humanists.
