PROJECTS DESCRIPTION:
Proposal for Community Store and Solar Charging Station
Our network proposes two initiatives to support our community in the Goromu Refugee Settlement Camp:
-Community Store: Provide affordable drinking water by sourcing and distributing it efficiently.
- Solar Charging Station: Offer reliable charging services for electronic devices, generating income to support essential needs such as food, medical aid, and other necessities.
Community Store: Affordable Drinking Water
a. Rationale
Currently, residents pay $1 for a 1.5-liter bottle of water, making hydration costly, especially given the region's high temperatures. Our project proposes to offer 20-liter jerry cans of clean water at the same price, significantly reducing the cost per liter and ensuring better access to safe drinking water.
b. Implementation Plan.
- Water Source: Procure water from the Nile River, ensuring it meets safety standards for consumption.
- Storage: Install a 5,000-liter water tank to store the water.
- Distribution: Sell water in 20-liter jerry cans at $1 each, providing an affordable alternative to current options.
c. Budget
- Tarpaulin/Tent Structure:$200 (covers materials and labor)
- 5,000L Water Tank: Approximately $300 citeturn0search9
- Initial Water Procurement (5,000L): $100 (includes transportation)
- Total: $600
d. Revenue Projection
Selling 5,000 liters at $1 per 20-liter jerry can:
- Total Revenue per Cycle: $250
-
Solar Charging Station
a. Rationale
The community lacks access to reliable electricity, hindering communication, education, and entertainment. A solar charging station will allow residents to charge phones, power banks, rechargeable lights, and Bluetooth speakers, fostering connectivity and productivity.
b. Implementation Plan
- Equipment: Purchase and install solar panels, batteries, and charging outlets.
- Services Offered: Charging for phones, power banks, rechargeable lights, and speakers.
- Pricing: Set affordable rates to ensure accessibility while generating income for maintenance and sustainability.
c. Budget
- Solar Charging System: Approximately $650 citeturn0search8
d. Revenue Projection
- Estimated Daily Earnings: $7 - $10
- Weekly Earnings:
- At $7/day: $49
- At $10/day: $70
- Monthly Earnings:
- At $7/day: $210
- At $10/day: $300
4. Combined Budget Overview
- Community Store: $600
- Solar Charging Station: $650
- Total Project Cost: $1,250
5. Funding Request
We request a sustainability grant of $1,200 to implement these projects. The additional $50 required will be sourced through community contributions and fundraising efforts.
6. Sustainability Plan
Both projects are designed to be self-sustaining:
- Community Store: Revenue from water sales will cover operational costs and allow for future expansion.
- Solar Charging Station:Charging fees will fund maintenance and potential scaling of services.
7. Community Impact
These initiatives will:
- Reduce the financial burden of accessing clean drinking water.
- Provide reliable energy solutions, enhancing communication and quality of life.
- Create employment opportunities and promote self-reliance within the community.
Expected Income from Project, with Timeline
$500 per month.
