Why We Are Humanist

Our humanist group from Sokodé does not rely on gods, spirits, or religious teachings. We reject the idea that invisible forces control our lives or that tradition should silence reason. Too often, religion has been used to divide people, suppress thought, and justify inequality. We believe it's time to think freely and live responsibly without fear of divine punishment or promises of the afterlife.

We are humanists because we believe in human beings not in gods. We believe that truth comes from evidence and reason, not from holy books. We know that morality does not require religion; it requires empathy, critical thinking, and a sense of shared humanity.

We choose science over superstition, compassion over dogma, and freedom over fear. As humanists, we commit ourselves to building a just, peaceful, and inclusive society based on human dignity, not religious authority.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

We a solar-powered water pump. In our community, limited access to affordable and sustainable irrigation systems has constrained agricultural productivity and income. We often rely on rain-fed farming or labor-intensive manual watering, which leads to inconsistent harvests, crop losses, and food insecurity. A solar-powered pump will allow the group to irrigate our farms efficiently and reliably using clean energy, reducing dependency on costly fuel or unreliable rainfall. The equipment will be shared amongst all members, where each member contributes to its upkeep and benefits from improved access to water for farming. With better irrigation, the group will increase crop yields, diversify produce, and extend growing seasons, enabling them to sell surplus in local markets and boost household income. Additionally, using solar energy reduces environmental impact and operational costs, promoting long-term sustainability. This project not only strengthens our economic resilience but also supports climate-smart agriculture, builds collective ownership, and promotes environmental stewardship. It’s a step toward equitable, sustainable development driven by women at the grassroots level.
