What does humanism mean to your group?
We are a community group of grassroots organizers. For us, humanism is prioritizing people over systems, hierarchy, and religious dogma. It means organizing with compassion, mutual aid, and collective responsibility—believing that dignity, respect, and well-being should not be privileges, but rights shared equally by all. We believe humanism is a practical, ethical framework that puts care and solidarity at the center of life.
Project Description
Our Community Teahouse is a social initiative to create a safe and welcoming space for workers, migrants, and lower-income communities living in our area. Our teahouse will offer affordable breakfast and drinks—keeping profit margins as low as possible while serving the daily needs of those often overlooked.
We also aim to create a food-sharing system where members can enjoy one free tea and one piece of bread each day using a ticket board system. People can also add to the board by paying forward if they want to contribute. We envision the tea house as a place of rest, solidarity, and connection—a community hub where people feel seen and supported.
Our tea house will also open up jobs and support for Burmese earthquake survivors who have been displaced and are trying to rebuild their lives. We see our tea house as a lifeline and a symbol of hope for many.
