Members of the sanctuary community (our “partners”) include Hamza Boakai and Juliet Boakai who coordinate the daily care of the children. The children living at the sanctuary include Fatu (female, 8 years), Bendu (female, 6 years), Jenneh (female, 2 years), Emmanuel (male, 5 years), Joseph (male, 4 years), Saah (male, 4 years), Mohammed (male, 3 years), Kumba (male, 2.5 years), and Tamba (male, 3 years). These children are the direct beneficiaries of the project and will benefit from improved access to clean drinking water.

What does humanism mean to you?
I became a humanist through self-discovery. I grew tired of the constant self-pity that came with religious thinking and the idea that suffering was somehow part of a divine plan. Living with health challenges made me question why people say “God is good” while ignoring the real causes of illness. Through reflection I came to understand that sickness and disease are natural phenomena, and it is the work of scientists, doctors, and human knowledge that truly brings solutions. Humanism, to me, is the recognition of the power of the human mind and the understanding that the progress, compassion, and beauty we see in the world come from human effort and responsibility.

Project Description
Mind2Love Humanist Children Sanctuary is seeking $300 in seed funding to purchase and install a solar water pump system that will provide reliable access to clean water for the orphanage. Access to safe drinking water is essential for the health and well-being of the children living at the sanctuary. Currently, obtaining clean water can be difficult and sometimes requires additional cost or effort.

The proposed project will install a small solar-powered pump system connected to a water source, allowing water to be pumped using renewable solar energy. The system will help supply clean water for drinking, cooking, and sanitation at the sanctuary. Because the pump operates using solar power, it will function without relying on electricity or fuel, making it a sustainable and cost-effective solution for the long term.

In addition to meeting the daily water needs of the children, the project will also allow the sanctuary to sell affordable clean water to members of the local community. This will create a small income stream that can help cover food, school materials, healthcare, and other essential needs for the children.

Utility and Impact

Access to Clean Water for the Children
The solar water pump will provide a consistent and reliable source of clean water for drinking, cooking, bathing, and sanitation. This will significantly improve the health and hygiene conditions within the sanctuary and reduce the risk of water-borne illnesses.

These funds will directly support the children’s needs including food, school supplies, and healthcare.
