Why we became humanists

The reason we are not religious and are humanist instead is our personal experience with the hypocrisy of our Islamic religion, the fanaticism and the dogma. What makes religion harsh on the human experience has made us reevaluate our beliefs and focus on human values such as thoughtfulness, compassion, and empathy. We stop believing in any god that has no practical value in our lives, nor do we engage in endless and useless worship, because that too is useless. Human values are what we pour into our orphanage. As we now work with children, we have discovered that humanist principles are more effective in promoting empathy, understanding and inclusion.

Project Description

The Freedom Humanist Orphanage in Chad has long relied on external donations to support its operations, including providing food, education, and healthcare for the children. However, to ensure long-term sustainability, the orphanage aims to diversify its income sources. This proposal outlines a plan to establish an animal feed pellet production facility, utilizing the existing grinding mill to generate revenue. This project not only aims to benefit the orphanage but also contributes to the local community by addressing the demand for affordable and quality animal feed.

Revenue Potential and Community Impact

The animal feed pellet production facility will generate income by producing high-quality feed pellets from locally sourced grains and agricultural byproducts. The growing demand for affordable feed in the region presents a significant market opportunity. By selling animal feed pellets to local farmers and livestock owners, the orphanage will create a consistent revenue stream. This income will reduce the orphanage’s reliance on external donations and allow it to support the children’s needs, such as food, education, and healthcare.

The local community will benefit from access to affordable animal feed, helping to boost local farming practices and contribute to economic growth. Moreover, the production facility will create job opportunities, both within the orphanage and for local workers, further fostering community development.

Staff Training for Success

A crucial element of the project’s success will be the training of staff to operate the pellet-making machine and manage the production process. Staff will receive training on machine operation, quality control, maintenance, and safety protocols. Additionally, local community members may be hired, creating further employment opportunities. This training will equip staff with valuable skills in production and business management, ensuring smooth operations and contributing to the long-term sustainability of the project.

Long-Term Profitability and Sustainability

The profits generated from the sale of animal feed pellets will provide a stable cash flow for the orphanage, ensuring that essential needs, such as food, education, and medical care, are met. As demand increases, the orphanage can expand production, further increasing profits. Over time, this project will help the orphanage achieve financial self-sufficiency, reducing its reliance on donations and ensuring continued care for the children.

In the long term, the feed pellet business will become a cornerstone of the orphanage’s operations, contributing to its sustainability while benefiting the local community and economy.

Conclusion

By establishing an animal feed pellet production facility, the Freedom Humanist Orphanage will generate a steady income to support its operations and improve the lives of the children it serves. The project will provide local farmers with affordable animal feed, create jobs, and reduce the orphanage’s dependency on external funding. With proper training and a well-executed plan, this project will lead to long-term financial stability and sustainability for the orphanage and its community.

Project Timeline and Estimated Profit

The project timeline for establishing the animal feed pellet production facility at the Freedom Humanist Orphanage is structured to ensure a smooth setup and operation. The first phase, spanning two months, will focus on procuring the necessary equipment, including the pellet-making machine and packaging materials, and preparing the orphanage’s existing grinding mill to accommodate the new machine. During this time, initial training for staff will also be conducted, covering machine operation, quality control, and safety procedures.

In the following two months, the pellet-making machine will be installed, and staff will receive hands-on training, including maintenance and troubleshooting skills. The orphanage will begin small-scale production during this phase, testing the quality of the pellets and making any adjustments needed. A small quantity of pellets will be sold to local farmers to assess demand.

By the fifth and sixth months, the facility will shift to full-scale production. Marketing efforts will be intensified to establish a customer base, and production will be optimized to meet increasing demand. The orphanage anticipates steady sales, ensuring a consistent revenue stream by the end of the sixth month.

Regarding estimated profit, the first few months will see modest earnings as the facility ramps up production. In the third and fourth months, the orphanage expects to sell around 100 to 200 bags of animal feed per month, generating approximately $300 to $600 in revenue. By months five and six, as production increases and the customer base expands, revenue is projected to rise to between $600 and $1,000 monthly. With operational costs of around $300 per month, the expected profit in the initial months is approximately $300 to $700 monthly. Over the course of a year, this would translate into annual profits of $3,600 to $8,400, all of which will be reinvested to support the orphanage’s essential operations, ensuring its long-term sustainability.

Benefit to the Community

● Affordable Animal Feed: The project will provide local farmers and livestock owners with access to affordable, locally-produced animal feed, which will help reduce the reliance on imported feed that can be expensive and difficult to obtain.

● Job Creation: The establishment and operation of the feed production facility will create job opportunities for local workers, both within the orphanage and in the surrounding community. This includes positions related to production, maintenance, packaging, and sales.

● Economic Growth: By providing a steady supply of high-quality animal feed, the project will support the agricultural and livestock industries, which are vital sectors in Chad’s economy. This can help boost local food production and contribute to regional economic development.

● Skill Development: Local workers and orphanage staff will be trained in various aspects of the production process, including machine operation, maintenance, and quality control. This training will equip them with valuable skills that can be used for future employment opportunities.

● Support for Local Farmers: By offering affordable and high-quality animal feed, the project will help local farmers improve their livestock productivity. This can lead to healthier animals, increased milk or meat production, and greater food security for the community.

● Increased Financial Stability: As the orphanage generates income through the sale of animal feed pellets, it will reduce its dependence on external donations, contributing to the overall financial stability of the orphanage. This ensures that the orphanage can continue to support not only its own children but also the surrounding community in the long run.

● Local Business Growth: The project may stimulate the growth of other local businesses, such as suppliers of raw materials (grains and agricultural byproducts), packaging providers, and transportation companies, further boosting the local economy.

● Sustainable Development: The initiative promotes sustainable practices by utilizing locally-sourced agricultural byproducts to create animal feed, reducing waste and supporting the circular economy in the community.
